Sometimes blogging is like finding an apartment. You go on Craigslist, you narrow your preferences, you look at some posts. Every once and awhile you’ll see something that sounds interesting (“Large Room in Manhatten – Cheap!”), but then you look at the photos and wonder why the biggest photo of the bunch is of the bathroom, or why they decided to strech one of the pictures about 20 pixels too wide.
Well, I’m experiencing the same thing with this story breaking news. Sure it’s for the Olympics. Ok, you’ll release it this Christmas for DS and Wii. Oh, and you are putting Mario and Sonic head to head in a competition game. Whhaaattt? Have you got any marginally convincing quotes to back this up with? Oh, you do. Great…
“Nintendo’s senior managing director and general manager Shigeru Miyamoto offered: “Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals since the early days of video games. In fact, for a long time they have been discussing the possibility of one day competing against each other. Now they have been given the perfect opportunity to meet at the Olympic Games, we can finally learn who is the faster, Mario or Sonic?”
“Bringing together intensely competitive and fun characters like Mario and Sonic in an Olympic setting helps showcase the sports of the Olympic Games in a new and compelling way for all generations.”
I don’t know, it sounds kind of hokey to me, and even if the game does exist, it still falls under “borderline retarded” on my list of things I’m willing to put on my credit card.

Go Nintendo is still a believer in the Wii Beautiful Katamari game. I’m willing to follow my faith blindly wherever the Katamari ball will roll

Truly and deeply inside my heart, I am still a consumerist and I love to buy things at a good price, so I’m ok without the Wiinja, a Wii mod for playing backed up/pirated games. So far, Nintendo has done a good job of keeping the price points of their consoles and their games at a fair price, it’s just getting a hold of one that’s difficult.

The whole past week’s postings have been nothing but whinging about how lame I think everyone is. Well, not today! The Amazing Rolo has made an incredible hack/app that uses the handheld wii-mote with the software he’s created for a computer to make and edit loopable MUSIC.
Each function of the wii-mote (the buttons, the swinging action) all conforms to create different effects of the samples on the app. You can download the software he’s created here, but I’d watch the video first, which is an amazing tutorial on what can be done with it.

Majesco has announced that they are shipping “Cooking Mama: Cook-Off” for the Wii to retailers nationwide. It’s got the same general format as “Cooking Mama” for the DS, but now you can finally prove to your mom that you really ARE a better cook than her:
“A multiplayer mode lets budding chefs cook off in competitive mini-games to determine who can cook the fastest with the fewest mistakes. In addition, real-time effects lend authenticity to creations and help players determine when food is cooked to perfection.”
You can also submit family recipes for a chance to win a limited-edition Cooking Mama apron here.

Uh, funny story… I was shopping in San Francisco literally days before Christmas trying to get parking in the O’Farell garage smack in the middle of Union Square in really bad traffic. Of course, some one ended up cutting me off, but then THEY started honking at ME, trying to push me out of the road where I could not go. What am I supposed to assume you want me to do when I can’t go anywhere? All I could do was channel the spirits to come up with an answer and the spirits told me to stick up my middle finger and yell “FUCK YOU BITCH, WHERE DO YOU WANT ME TO GO YOU ALREADY CUT ME OFF, DUMBASS!”. That’s when the black woman driving the other car without plates got out and punched me in the face through my car window full-fisted with matching gold hair, earrings, and fingernails while my ex-boyfriend did nothing (though that’s kind of what he did in the general boyfriend department). Then she got back in her car and sped off so the whole thing was completely pointless and I ended up hating black people for like a week. I think after a week, I just kinda forgot about the whole thing so now I’m “not a racist” again.
YOU KNEW I HAD TO BRING IT UP

Now we all know Nintendo Wii is coming out a week from Sunday (two days after that crazy waffle iron comes out that everyone else wants. I, of course, always have to be different and keep my kitchen appliances and my gaming devices in separate rooms.) My opinions aside, I just really don’t want to see anyone to GET BEAT DOWN NEXT WEEK. Leave the console wars to the corporations, the stockholders, and the media because the fact of the matter is, most people getting a console next week don’t deserve one (i.e.: the guys who paid a homeless man to stand in line in Japan who got mauled by the mob, Paris Hilton, and probably “Turtle” in an episode of Entourage). And if your friend gets one before you do, just take comfort in knowing a first generation will probably melt in a couple of weeks, so you can just relax and enjoy the time you have with it and your friend instead of spreading rumors about him or her out of jealous rage. It’s not healthy and we all have to remember that at the end of the day these are toys that we’re talking about.

OPTIONAL READING
If you actually want to know why I really want a Nintendo Wii, I’ll tell you why: I’m a Screamer. That means when I play videogames, I have a tendency to scream very loudly (cops came over to my friend’s house once after reports came in that the neighbors thought there was a domestic disturbance while I was playing GTA). The Nintendo Wii gives me an opportunity to yelp and squeak complete with bodily spasms without looking like I wasn’t born with enough chromosomes. Also I like cute, “girl” games, which I’m proud to say that I play because it just so happens I’M A FRIGGIN’ GIRL. So I want one, I pre-ordered one, and I will sit here patiently until I get one.

As a small shareholder of the company, I thought it was my fiscal responsibility to hit Nintendo first and make sure the company wasn’t going to eff up their 2006 Annual Report projections. My wandering aimlessly towards the booth had absolutely nothing to do with bright moving colors and shapes on the walls. It was pure, unadulterated greed.
Some exhibits went for the balls-to-the-wall 3D experience, but at Nintendo it was all about lines. Not the clean lines of the DS Lites that littered the demo halls or the neat line-art of the numerous Japanese cartoon games that they had coming out. It was more like the ridiculous Disneyland-esque lines of people trying to get to the coveted Nintendo Wii presentation or the irrational “Blue light Special” crowd around the New Super Mario Brothers demo.

I gave up on the line for the Wii after not being able to find the end of the line for (I kid you not) ten minutes. Apparently the line for the Wii demo was pretty unmovable for all 3 days. Ben was able to get into it on the last day, saying that it really was a pretty awesome console and a lot of people seemed to really enjoy playing it.

After licking my wounds, I decided not to be a punk and wait in the demo line for the New Super Mario Bros which, lo and behold, came with the gift of schwag:

A DS Lite case for all those who tried out the new game that comes out TODAY which happens to play exactly and as awesomely as the online demo. I’ll have review of the game in the weeks to come, I’m sure of it.
Oh, and BTW, my stock has gone up $3.00 since the beginning of E3. Gee I wonder why.
